I have a 90 yo patient that just arrived from overseas and within 24hours of being in USA she had a nightmare happen. Let her dog out and in a new house the dog tried to get out of the yard and got its head stuck in the block fence. She panicked and had a cardiac arrest. The dog died and now I am taking care of this patient. The family did not want spiritual chaplan care as they admitted to being athiest but I asked if we could pray. She agreed and now the patient is awake and getting better. WOW!

Asked about abortion

Friday, July 10th, 2009

this is a quote from Fr. Chalie Coury who just spoke at my retreat….
“for us (Catholics) abortion is devistating. A rich country that has so much and it has to yank out a living human being from the womb of its mother and call it a parasite. Well, it’s a lie, it’s an absolute deception to KILL a human being, an infant. For us it brings chills in our body!

this is me speaking now….”if the mere thought of abortion, and I have seen the 20 wk fetus with little fingernails and eye lashes already formed, if it does not brings chills in your body then I question the authenticity of your Christianity. Call yourself anything but do not dare to call yourself a Christian, a follower of Jesus who loves life and all that is living if you accept even the idea of abortion!

Prevent Blood Clots!

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

I had a patient today and he reminded me how important it is to use the shifting stances to stretch the deep veins of the lower leg to help prevent blood clots while traveling. My patient is always flying and has been in several countries in just a few short days as part of his job. he was admitted to the hospital for swelling and blood clots in his legs and I spent alot of time educating him on how to stretch the deep veins of the lower legs. We must preserve the integrity and strength of our blood vessels by stretching and exercising them. Just a few minutes a day will accomplish this. Refer to the signchido textbook on how to do those exercises. Other things to consider is to take a baby aspirin and use support stockings when travelling extensively!

Lectio Divina

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

‘Divine Reading’.  In the Art of Moving Prayer program we will embrace this ancient sacred scriptural prayer practice. It was first introduced by St. Benedict (500 A.D) and is a powerful way to engage both the mind and body in a prayer-filled experience.  If you are familiar with this type of Christian prayer, please let me hear from you. I will be posting articles and personal experiences as it pertains to Lectio Divina and Moving Prayer. Please refer to the Art of Moving Prayer section.

Energy drinks can be dangerous

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I admitted a patient to the hospital today with persistant chest pain and palpitations due solely to energy drinks. He drank 3 cans in a short period of time and now is in a hospital bed because of it. Please avoid the high energy drinks because we do not know what is in them and be aware of what you put in your body.  Let me know if you ever had a bad experience with these drinks. They tend to cause blood vessels to constrict which can be very harmful to the body.

Prayer and Diabetes

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I am amazed at how many research studies show the health benefit of prayer and religious belief. I had a conversation at the hospital today with a collegue of mine and we concluded that prayer does infact increase the psychological resiliency among those managing chronic stress of diabetes. If you are a diabetic or know someone who is diabetic I would like your input on this topic. As a medical physician, I feel it is my job to speak out to the benefit of prayer and stop being afraid of talking about it in the workplace.
